If you have bad knees, which is less stressful for meditation? The Seiza bench or the Zafu and Zabuton?
Great sire, I will skirt your question directly and purposefully: it is this — if you have bad knees, you must allow your knees to suggest to you what is best for purposes of meditation.
Above all, abide your knees. Their suggestion is practical and to the point — the pain.
Your knees will let you know. Sitting upon a comfortable rock might do or upon a thick carpet of grasses, or name it —
And if no “named” thing suits your knees, then be soulful enough to be practical about it — you improvise !
We made do with what we had well before chairs and benches were ever conceived. And behold — after several million years, here we are…we’re still here.
After all, this is part of the purpose for meditation, yes? — which imparts us to use what we have, and to be who and what we are; and we should hope in this case, by the entreats that comes by meditation, we shall be practical about what we determine to create to avert the pain.
